Sandle makes mark in North-South All-Star Game

Michael Sandle found himself on the same field as some of the best football players in Florida Saturday afternoon at Buffalo Range Field in The Villages.

It would have been easy for him to get lost in the shuffle in a game featuring players with multiple offers to elite Division I programs, but rather than shy away from the spotlight, Sandle shined in it.

Navarre’s talented senior defensive back picked off two passes en route to earning MVP honors for the North, which fell 32-30 to the South in the Florida Athletic Coaches Association North-South All-Star Game.

The MVP honor was the exclamation point on what has been a remarkable career for Sandle, who helped the Raiders go 10-1 and win a District 2-6A championship this season.

“It was awesome,” Sandle said during a phone interview Monday. “I was blessed to be a part of it and play against the best in Florida. I was not expecting to be on the team. It was a sweet surprise.”

Sandle found out about his all-star nod a week after the Raiders’ season ended with a 23-22 double overtime loss to Tate in the opening round of the playoffs.

“I didn’t want that to be the last memory of my high school career,” Sandle said. “I wanted to go out differently and this game gave me the chance to do it. I went into it wanting to represent Navarre the best that I could.”
