Michael Carter spent a good part of his summer improving his football skills and showcasing his talents at camps on college campuses.
He received his latest offer earlier this summer from Mississippi State and now has five Division I offers overall. The others are from Florida, Florida Atlantic, Tennessee and South Florida.
“I’ve had a chance to visit a lot of schools,” Carter said. “Things are going really well with the recruiting.”
But with a new football season on the horizon, the Navarre running back’s attention shifts back to the field and being ready to play his best when the Raiders open the year against Dothan Aug. 21.
Carter was hard at work at practice on a hot Thursday morning, seeing time at both running back and in the secondary, offering up a glimpse of his versatility and athleticism.
“We’ve been waiting a long time for practice to start,” Carter said. “Everyone is out here working hard and is excited to be here. It’s the best time of the year.”
For Carter, the new season presents an opportunity to further cement his status as one of the best players in the state. He is coming off a stellar sophomore campaign in which he rushed for 744 yards and 12 touchdowns and also caught 20 passes for 337 yards and five scores.
