Phillip Ervin started off his season in impressive fashion, hitting a double and triple to lead the Pensacola Blue Wahoos to a season-opening win over the Mississippi Braves Thursday night at Trustman Park.
Ervin, the No. 12 prospect in the Cincinnati Reds organization, helped the Blue Wahoos win a season opener for the fourth time in the five-year history of their franchise. Pensacola finished with four hits in all.
It also proved to be a good night for highly touted pitching prospect Nick Travesio, who threw five shutout innings. He worked himself out of a bases-loaded jam in the fourth and gave up four hits in all. He struck out five and walked two. Travesio is the seventh-best prospect for the Reds.
The Blue Wahoos continue their series with Mississippi this weekend before returning to Pensacola Tuesday night for their home opener against Jacksonville at Blue Wahoos Stadium.
