In late January, first-year head coach Scott Murphy took his baseball team to Tallahassee to play two simulated preseason games.
Murphy thought at that time he had a squad with the potential to be a strong team.
It turned out that he was right.
The Raiders completed the season with a district championship for the first time since 2002 and a bid in the regional tournament.
Their season ended in the regional semifinal round May 5 in a 3-0 loss to Chiles in Tallahassee.
The loss ended a 13-game win streak in which Navarre outscored its opponents 78-25.
But the Raiders couldn’t get their offense going against Chiles, managing only two hits, both coming off the bat of Conner Lovell.
Lovell’s single in the fifth inning broke up Bowden Francis’ no-hit bid.
