Mario Cruz was named the MVP of the Subway High School All-Star Game Thursday night.
The Navarre standout scored a goal in the East’s 2-1 win over the West at Dolphins Stadium in Gulf Breeze. It’s the fourth time the East has won the game in the last four years.
“It feels amazing to be the MVP,” Cruz said. “I didn’t expect it. It’s a great honor in a game with so many great players in it.”
The East also won the girls game, knocking off the West 4-1 for its fifth consecutive in all-star action.
Navarre was well-represented in a game that featured seniors from Santa Rosa, Escambia and Okaloosa counties.
Lizzy Madril and Haylee Howard played in the girls game and Cruz joined teammates Matt Dunham and Zach Smith in the game in the boys game.
Zack Gonzalez was selected as well but was playing baseball for the Raiders Thursday night. Emily Madril did not play either.
She graduated in December to get a jump on her soccer career at Florida State.
