Navarre’s cross-country teams continued to post personal bests, this time on the flat, historically fast circuit in Bray-Hendricks Park in Jay at the JD Mac Invitational.
The trip to Jay was long. The times the Raiders posted were short.
Talley Yamaguchi ended a three-year drought of having no runner break the 23-minute barrier. Her 22:51 is the fastest time since Lauren Bilby’s 21:54 at the same meet in 2016.
Yamaguchi finished 20th overall and led the Raider girls to a fifth-place finish.
“I definitely do have more in me,” she said. “I didn’t really hurt. I was out of breath more. I really think I have more to give, but I didn’t feel like it at the time.”
The senior is well on pace to reach her preseason goal of 21:30.
Coach Katie Fein was pleased with the results.
“They have been pushing themselves so hard in practice, and it’s really paying off,” Fein said. “After this week’s race, all my girls are starting to realize how hard they can push themselves. I am really excited to see their performances when they don’t leave any gas in the tank.”
