Cronin rising to occasion for Raiders

When Matt Cronin started playing baseball, he wasn’t a pitcher.

“Growing up, I was actually a centerfielder,” Cronin said. “People caught up and I wasn’t as fast compared to other players. It wasn’t until I was like 11 or 12 that I started pitching.”

The position change has worked out for Cronin, who also plays at first base for the Navarre Raiders.

In the season opener three weeks ago against rival Gulf Breeze, Cronin pitched his way into school history, striking out a record 18 batters as he threw a no-hitter in the Raiders’ 2-0 win over the Dolphins.
