Jackie Coyne is the new head coach of the Navarre girls basketball team.
Coyne has spent the last four seasons coaching at Lake Placid High School in Florida, leading a team that struggled before her arrival to four district championships. Lake Placid advanced to the Elite Eight in her second season. Coyle went 56-19 in her time at Lake Placid.
Navarre is a struggling program as well and Coyne looks forward to turning things around.
“I’m excited about the opportunity,” Coyne said during a phone interview Friday morning. “I think my strong background helps. My focus is on teaching fundamentals, defense and the importance of team basketball.”
Coyne, a former college basketball player at St. Vincent College in Pennsylvania, said her coaches impacted her life in a big way and she wants to have that same type of impact on the Raiders.
“I have a lot of energy and passion for the game and my coaches made me the person I am today,” Coyne said. “I want to be that same type of coach to the players here.”
