Collegiate National Team next stop for Cronin

Matt Cronin isn’t done playing baseball yet. His next stop is North Carolina. He arrived there this past weekend to join the Team USA Collegiate National team.

Cronin and his teammates will play a handful of games in the United States before wrapping up with a trip to Cuba July 10-15  for the USA vs. Cuba International Friendship Series in Havana.

It’s a huge honor for the former Navarre star and current Arkansas closer — he’s one of only 24 on the roster — and a nice way to forget the gut-wrenching end to the College World Series in Omaha last week.

The Razorbacks were an out away from winning the title before a pop up fell between three fielders in foul territory in Game 2. Oregon State capitalized and rallied for a 5-3 win. The Beavers went on to win Game 3 the next night.

Cronin had a breakout year in the closer role for the Razorbacks. Only a sophomore, Cronin set the single-season school record for saves (14) and made 25 appearances in all this year, including four in the CWS.
