Alex Coley was hoping to be a cheerleader captain at Navarre this year, and through hard work and dedication, she achieved that goal.
“I’m glad I was picked,” Coley said. “It’s going to be a lot of fun. I like to get girls motivated and focused. So far, it’s going really good.”
Coley, a senior, will share co-captain responsibilities with classmate Chelsea Crosslin, who is equally excited about helping to lead the squad during the 2016-17 school year.
“”It’s going to come with a lot of dedication and responsibility and I have to be a role model,” Crosslin said. “But I’m excited to take it on.”
Coley and Crosslin head up a squad that features 20 girls, half of which are seniors.
“Alex and Chelsea are both big contributors and we have a great team,” said head cheerleading coach Christy Anderson. “All of the girls work hard in practice and we’re counting on all of our seniors for leadership this season.”
Navarre’s cheerleaders work out twice a week through the end of June. The Raiders will take July off before ramping up training in August.
