Michael Carter now wears Carolina blue instead of the maroon, silver and black of the Navarre Raiders. But he still has home in his heart and he always will. It means the world to him to represent Navarre and the panhandle in general to the best of his ability.
“I don’t want to be a fluke. I want to show I can do it at this level, too,” Carter said. “I’m self-motivated, my family motivates me, and my friends motivate me. So, for me, I don’t want to let them down in Navarre or anywhere in the 850. I know they are rooting for me. I want to prove them right.”
Carter has certainly done a good job of proving others right throughout his career. The all-time leading rusher at Navarre has been the University of North Carolina’s top ball carrier in each of his first two collegiate seasons, rushing for more than 1,000 yards and 10 touchdowns.
He’s a two-time Doak Walker Award candidate as well and is hungry for the breakout season he knows he’s capable of as he enters his junior season with the Tar Heels.
And the key to making it happen?
“Consistency,” Carter said.
