Michael Carter is among the 62 college football players named to the Doak Walker Award Watch List. The list was released Wednesday.
The all-time leading rusher at Navarre, Carter is entering his sophomore season at North Carolina.
The Doak Walker Award was first given out in 1990 and is awarded to the top running back in the nation.
Carter is coming off a freshman season in which he ranked second on the team in rushing with 558 yards. He led the Tar Heels in rushing touchdowns, scoring eight. He also caught a touchdown pass last season.
On his Facebook page Wednesday night, Carter said he was thankful for the opportunity. He and the Tar Heels open the season Sept. 1 at California.
