Navarre’s boys basketball team didn’t outscore its opponent too often last season and have had its share of struggles during the summer season against teams with a more fine-tuned offense.
But the Raiders looking to change that and it starts at the point guard position.
The burden to get the team into a good flow rests on the shoulders of the Carter brothers, Louis and Latrell Carter.
Louis, a 5-foot-10 rising senior, started most of last year. He is confident with his ballhandling skills and familiarization with teammates’ tendencies and preferences on where to feed them the ball.
Latrell, a rising junior, practiced with the 2019 varsity squad but did not dress on game day. He is the self-proclaimed “better shooter” than his older sibling.
Both have been getting up early working on their skills and strength to help Navarre turn things around this season.
This includes running games at the base gym, weightlifting, and starting pickup games outside with teammates.
“We’ve put in a lot more offseason work than last year,” Latrell said. “I’m working on my handles and my off-the-dribble shots.”
Louis is primarily focused on shooting.
