Fundamentals and fun are the focus of the basketball camp inside the high school gymnasium on a Monday morning in Navarre.
Abby Fogg has been hosting the camp in each of her first three seasons as the head coach of Navarre’s girls basketball team. She enjoys it.
“Anytime you can do something like this in the community, it’s a good thing. They are all having fun,” Fogg said.
Open to children ages 8-14, both boys and girls, Fogg and several of her players ran the aspiring athletes through various drills. There were even 3-on-3 games near the end of each day.
“We work a lot on the fundamentals, but that can get tiring for them after a while, so we make it fun by turning it into a game. They are still using the fundamentals while having fun at the same time,” Fogg said.
Fogg said it’s important to teach the young players how to do things the right way when it comes to basketball over the course of the two-day camp.
