Perhaps the odds should be screaming at Marquez Smith to give up playing baseball, the game he has loved since he was 4 years old.
But the odds don’t matter when it comes to chasing the dream of playing in the Major Leagues. It’s why Smith continues to go after it.
He is beginning his ninth season as a minor league player, starting out this year with the Pensacola Blue Wahoos, the Double-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds.
“It’s a grind,” Smith said. “There aren’t many guys that are still playing as long as I’ve been doing it. I play hard every day and hope that my time comes soon enough.”
