Beach Bowl up next for the Raiders

As the thrill of victory soaked in late Friday night, the Navarre players celebrating a 49-12 District 2-6A win over Milton inside the fieldhouse, the enjoyment was expected to carry on into the weekend, though the focus was on a huge game on the horizon.

Gulf Breeze is next for the state-ranked Raiders. As expected these two longtime rivals will duke it out for the district crown next Friday night in the Beach Bowl at Bennett C. Russell Stadium.

Head coach Jay Walls was proud of his team for getting the job done against the Panthers and excited about the opportunity his team has in front of it.

“I thought we played a really good game (Friday),” Walls said. “We put ourselves in a situation where we are playing for a district championship. I’m proud of our kids.”

Navarre and Gulf Breeze are both 7-1 overall and 2-0 in the district standings. The Dolphins defeated Pace 45-42 in a thriller last week. Both teams have a bye this week. That doesn’t mean it’s time to take it easy.
