Athletes blazed through the morning chill Friday in week four of the CrossFit Open.
The temperature might have still just been a few degrees above freezing at 5 a.m. when the first Navarre competitors started the morning session at CrossFit Navarre’s gym.
The “as prescribed” workout – a ladder of clean and jerks teamed with box jumps, then one-leg squats (better known as pistols) – had a maximum time of 20 minutes. For the men’s competition, that meant lifting 95 pounds 15 times and 30 box jumps onto a 24-inch box in round one – of a possible six rounds – with increasing weight and fewer reps in the lifts, but changing to 30 single-leg squats in the fourth round.
Alex Bailey, 18, knocked out the “as prescribed” workout before heading off to Navarre High School for a day of classes. He reached far enough in the workout that at 20 minutes he was lifting 225 pounds 10 times and doing 30 single-leg squats.
