Argos kick off season in battle of nationally ranked teams

It can get downright intense at University of West Florida football practice.

The players go back and forth. The smack talk is all in fun for the Argonauts as they push each other to be better than they were the day before.

All-American defensive back Marvin Conley said he’s always talking with wide receiver Quentin Randolph, a former standout at Navarre.

“I argue with Quentin every day,” Conley said at the team’s media day. “It’s just a friendly competition. We push each other. We tell the receivers they aren’t getting anything against us.”

Randolph was asked after a scrimmage earlier this month who the better trash talker is. He laughs.

If you know Randolph, you know his answer.

“I’d like to think I’m the better talker,” Randolph said. “Marvin’s always chit-chatting with me and I’m always chit-chatting back. It’s nothing negative. It’s all fun. It takes the stress off. This game is a grind, and the talk makes practice more fun.”

The real fun begins Thursday when the Argonauts raise the curtain on the 2018 season. No. 2 UWF plays No. 22 Carson-Newman at Blue Wahoos Stadium in Pensacola.
