Argos hold off Miners in season opener

Mike Beaudry made Missouri S&T pay for a turnover early in the fourth quarter, hitting Gage Krull on a 13-yard scoring strike that gave West Florida the lead for good in a 20-16 victory over Missouri S&T Saturday night in Missouri.

The Miners tried to rally, getting inside the 10 but were forced to settle for a 25-yard field goal, allowing the Argos to hold on for their second consecutive season-opening win. Here are some numbers worth checking out on the Argos’ first win of the 2017 campaign.

Notable Numbers

5: Sacks the Argos had on a night when they limited the Miners to 65 yards rushing.

41: Rushing yards West Florida had in its win over the Miners. Chris Schwarz rushed for 34 of those yards.

265: Number of yards West Florida finished with in the season opener. Mike Beaudry threw for 192 of those yards, completing 20 of his 31 passes. It was the first game of his collegiate career after redshirting last year.
