It’s time for the University of West Florida football team to go back on the road. After back-to-back home games. the Argonauts will close out September with a Gulf South Conference game against Florida Tech Saturday in Melbourne. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CST.
UWF is coming off a 30-19 loss to Valdosta State last week and is hoping to beat the Panthers for the second consecutive year. A year ago, the Argos upset nationally ranked Tech 42-39 in Pensacola.
UWF fell to 2-1 after losing its GSC opener.
The Panthers topped Mississippi College 35-0 last Saturday and is 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the GSC. The shutout was the second of the season for Tech.
FTU is averaging 422 yards per game and allowing 237.8. The Panthers’ lone loss was to Division I McNeese State. It has given up only six points to NCAA Division II opponents. Mark Cato has thrown for 572 yards and three scores and Antwuan Hayes has rushed for 389 yards and three touchdowns.
Noteworthy: Mike Beaudry has thrown for 634 yards and six touchdowns…Chris Schwarz has rushed for 142 yards and two scores…Antoine Griffin is the Argos’ leading receiver with 15 catches for 252 yards…Sam Adams leads UWF’s defense with 21 tackles. Reggie Barnes has come up with 20 tackles and two sacks…Argos are averaging 316 yards per game and allowing 352.3 yards…UWF is 7-7 all-time in its program’s history.
