Navarre was riding an emotional high after defeating Niceville on consecutive nights two weeks ago as the victories secured the regular-season district championship.
The Raiders were hoping to keep their momentum going during the final week of the regular season before beginning their quest for a second straight district tournament title.
Instead, they will have to regroup and refocus after dropping two straight non-district games to finish the regular season at 11-9. The tourney begins today with a 7 p.m. game against rival Niceville.
Navarre had defeated Pine Forest 13-3 earlier in the season. The rematch had a much different outcome as the Raiders fell 7-4.
Navarre led when Matt Cronin’s base hit drove in two runs in the top of the third. The lead didn’t last long. Pine Forest came right back with five runs in the bottom of the frame.
The Eagles’ defense committed four errors in the fourth and the Raiders cashed in, tacking on two runs as a result of the miscues to pull to within one. Pine Forest responded in its half of the inning and matched the Raiders with two runs of its own to take control for good.
The regular season ended Thursday with a senior night celebration prior to the Raiders’ game against rival Gulf Breeze.
Seniors Ryan Catyb, Micah Daniel, Octavien Moyer, Matt Cronin, Conner Lovell, and Michael Sandle, were recognized for their contributions to the Raider baseball program before the start of the game.
