The second annual Navarre Invitational was held on Dec. 9 and to no one’s surprise, the Raiders won overwhelmingly. The Raiders scored 122 points, Baker placed second with 57 and Gulf Breeze was third with 21 points.
Many of the Raiders were unaccustomed to performing before a large crowd of family and friends that packed the gym. It was good experience for those moving on to the state competition in February.
In the 101-pound weight division, Payton Watson continues to dominate the competition. She combined a division-best, 135-pound bench press with a 110-pound clean-and-jerk, giving her a 245-pound combined lift and first place. Teammate Savannah Bitler placed second with a 215-pound combined lift.
Rabiya Emruli improved her best bench press by 10 pounds to 120 pounds and matched it with a 120-pound clean-and-jerk, giving her a 240-pound combined lift and first place in the 110-pound weight division. Charity Fulfer placed third with a 195-pound combined lift.
Miya Taylor had matching 120-pound best lifts in the bench press and the clean-and-jerk, giving her a 240-pound combined weight for a big win in the 119-pound weight division. Katie Wells placed third with a 220-pound total.
