Shutout loss ends Raiders’ hopes for district title

Navarre’s boys soccer team had high hopes of playing for a District 1-6A championship for the third consecutive season.

But that dream had a dagger driven through it Friday night at the Ashton Brosnaham Complex in Pensacola as the Raiders suffered a 1-0 loss to Tate.

Hoping to earn another shot at reigning district champ Niceville, Navarre is instead in wait-and-see mode when it comes to a regional tourney bid.

The Aggies scored their lone goal early in the first half and it stuck. The two-time district runner-up Raiders battled to notch the equalizer. They attacked hard in the final minutes of the game, producing several shots on goal. None found the mark.

The Raiders (15-7-1) went into the game ranked sixth among teams in the regional playoff poll. But Friday’s loss leaves their chances of a regional berth on thin ice. The bracket is set to be released Sunday.
