Aric Hoskins had his first attempt blocked by the goalie in last Monday night’s battle with Crestview. But that didn’t keep the senior from giving it another shot. Literally.
And this time he capitalized, punching the ball in for his second goal of the season and helping to elevate the Raiders to a 4-1 District 1-3A win over the Bulldogs on a mild evening at Bennett C. Russell Stadium.
As much as that goal helped Navarre (14-5-1) notch another win, it carried a little added meaning for Hoskins, one of 13 seniors on the roster.
It was a year ago that Hoskins stepped away from the game. He opted to pursue working after school and figured he wouldn’t have enough time to squeeze soccer into his schedule.
But in time he realized he still wanted soccer to be a part of his life and rejoined the team for his final year of high school. That chance to be with his teammates one last time was too much to pass up.
“My friends are the reason I came back. I missed them,” Hoskins said.
