The drought is over.
Five years after winning their last district championship, the Raiders finally hoisted a trophy again. They did it by rallying for a 3-2 win over Niceville in the District 1-6A title game Friday night.
Hailey Bastian scored the game-winner in the 69th minute under the lights of Bennett C. Russell Stadium, lifting the Raiders to the crown for the first time since 2015. That year, Navarre made a run to the state final four.
Megan Kirby scored in the 12th minute for a 1-0 lead. But the four-time district champion Eagles punched in two goals in a span of 15 minutes to take a 2-1 lead into halftime.
Autumn Slaybaugh’s penalty kick in the 67th minute tied the score before Bastian finished off the comeback.
Faith Good made three saves for Navarre (16-5-2), which now turns its attention to the regional tournament.
The district title gives the Raiders an automatic berth to the tourney and they are assured of a first-round home game Tuesday night.
The regional bracket will be released Sunday.
