Ruck remembers fallen, honors those on watch

June Ates Arena in Milton resonated with the tones of a bell accompanying the reading of the 147 names of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty in 2019.

As each name was read, an officer in full-dress uniform saluted to the sound.

The ceremony brought a somber end to three days of marching in the annual End of Watch Memorial Ruck. From Oct. 1 to 3, 120 athletes in eight teams took turns carrying 147 1-pound weights, each bearing the photo of an officer killed in the line of duty over a 147-mile circuit.
