Raiders ready to kick off year with Beach Bowl

There will be no district title on the line and an automatic berth to the playoffs won’t be hanging in the balance Friday night when Navarre and Gulf Breeze square off in the Beach Bowl at Bennett C. Russell Stadium.

A week 10 game the past four seasons, with the last three featuring a showdown for the title, the Raiders move to 7A and the Dolphins staying put in 6A has created a new look to an old rivalry.

But don’t think for a moment the excitement surrounding the Beach Bowl has fizzled out. Jaden Rivera, a junior running back/linebacker will be the first to tell you it hasn’t.

“It’s a war. We are coming after them,” Rivera said. “We are going to prepare all week and it’s going to be a war Friday.”

Navarre has won three of the last four meetings between the two teams, including the last two. Senior defensive back Kobe Johsnon is confident the domination of the Raiders’ biggest rival will continue.

Just how ready are the Raiders? It might be a good idea to have the fire department on call.

“All night, I’m going to be playing with my hair on fire,” Johnson said. “We are all going to be flying around.
