When Grady Kelly and his Navarre teammates walked off the field last October after punctuating the regular season with a 52-14 win over Crestview, the Raiders believed the best was yet to come.
They were confident their dominating win over one of the hottest teams in the area was enough to cement their bid for a playoff berth.
But Selection Sunday came and went and the Raiders were left empty-handed. An up-and-down 6-4 season that saw Navarre play its best football down the stretch was over.
Time hasn’t healed the wound. Eleven months later, the senior defensive lineman still feels the sting.
“I can’t speak for how others personally feel, but I assume my teammates feel the same way. The fire, the want, the chip on the shoulder that it should been us, it’s motivated us,” Kelly said.
