Raiders ready to begin district play in football

Navarre makes its District 1-7A debut Thursday night when it heads to Tallahassee to take on Lincoln at Gene Cox Stadium.

The Raiders moved up from 6A this season and haven’t played the Trojans since 2010, when they met in the playoffs. Lincoln prevailed 34-33.

So, for the current players on Navarre’s team, a trip to the state capital for a football game is a new thing. But they will tell you they are ready for it.

“None of us have been on a trip like that (during the regular season) and we haven’t played on a Thursday since JV,” Raider defensive back Kobe Johnson said. “Lincoln is a good team. It should be a good matchup.”

The Raiders (3-0) go into the 7 p.m. EST game unbeaten and receiving votes in the Associated Press poll. The Trojans (2-1) are ranked 10th in the AP poll and have already played one district game, crushing Tate 43-0 Friday night. Navarre is coming off a 21-13 win over Milton.

The Trojans didn’t score in the opening quarter against the Aggies but poured it on over the next three, scoring a pair of touchdowns off interceptions and getting one score off a blocked punt.
