A chip is on the shoulder of Navarre, a chip built from the talk on the Crestview side of how the Raiders were lucky to beat the Bulldogs in September.
Down 28 points at halftime, Navarre defied the odds and dominated the second half in a thrilling 41-35 overtime win.
Senior defensive lineman Mitchell Hunt isn’t buying the whole luck thing.
“Everyone says it was a fluke. They are better than us is what people are saying,” Hunt said. “I think we are more conditioned and beat them up front. That’s how we won the game.”
Two months later, the Raiders (11-1) and Bulldogs (10-2) are set to meet again. They play Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at Bennett C. Russell Stadium.
The Region 1-6A title and trip to the state final four against either Vanguard or reigning state runner-up Armwood is on the line.
“Crestview is a great team and we have to play well,” Navarre head coach Jay Walls said. “We’re playing for a region championship. We’re really excited about that.”
