Quite a number of Navarre track athletes took the podium Saturday at the Tiger Invitational in Pensacola.
Raider head coach Tony Carter was unsure how the team would fare in the opening track meet of the season. But he sure was surprised when the girls’ 4 x 800-meter relay team won the first event of the day. Kada Beihl, Merete Conley, Talyah Jones and Talley Yamaguchi clocked an 11:02 time for the 2 miles, beating four other schools by no less than 23 seconds.
It set the tone for a day in which the girls placed second out of nine teams. The boys were third.
“People who are coming back are picking up where they left off last year, which is always good,” Carter said. “Today was very productive and positive. In the first meet of the year, you just want the kids to come out here and compete and see what the other competition was like, instead of just running against your teammates.”
