Raiders just miss on upset of Pace in district semifinals

With 14.8 seconds to play in the second overtime of an instant classic, Navarre led Pace 72-71.

Hailey Neely knocked down a 3-pointer that gave the Raiders a one-point lead. It put them on the brink of an improbable upset of the top seed in the District 1-6A tournament in Crestview.

But Pace tied the game to force a third OT,. And that’s where momentum swung in the Patriots’ favor. They rode it to an 81-74 win.

Navarre trailed by nine at halftime and found itself down 11 late in the third before a maddening rally by the Raiders breathed new life into their hopes of playing for the district title.

“We fought. I can say that,” Navarre head coach Abby Fogg said. “I don’t think we have fought like that all season.”

Rachel Legget scored 22 points and Neely finished with 21 for Navarre, which ends its season at 13-13, its most wins since 2016.
