Raiders come up short in regional softball tourney

Navarre’s softball team traveled to Cantonment to take on Tate in a Region 1-7A quarterfinal matchup last Wednesday, but the game ended in a 1-0 loss for the Raiders.

After Ali Gutierrez pitched the Raiders out of a jam in the first inning, the teams played dead even for the next six innings.

The Raiders went three up and three down in the first inning. In the bottom of the first, the Aggies put two on as a result of a bloop single and a Raider error.

However, Gutierrez made the next Tate batter pop out to short, followed by a ground out. Gutierrez struck out the next batter to end the inning. A pitcher’s duel emerged for the rest of the game.

Navarre had a chance to score in the third. Gutierrez singled and Jennifer Seward ran for her. Seward moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Caitlin Tilton. The Raiders left Seward stranded at third, as the next batter grounded out.

The Raiders put the bat on the ball, but the hits would not fall in. Meanwhile, the Raider defense played lights out ball.
