Navarre’s girls weightlifting team will bring 19 girls to compete in the 2A state meet Saturday at Arnold High School in Panama City.
“Nineteen is a school record for us,” Navarre head coach Garrett Bagley said. “It means what we are doing is working. However, flooding the field with a lot of girls is good, but we also have to have a good performance. We can take 19 to state, but if they don’t place in top six, it does not help us to win. It is a good accomplishment, but it doesn’t guarantee anything.”
The format of the state meet will be the same as the district and regional. The state competitors are made up of the eight regional champions plus 12 at-large bids from the next highest regional finishers.
“We have been hitting workouts hard,” senior Alexis Prather said. “A lot of us are coming in two or three times a day.”
