It wasn’t long before junior linebacker Bailey Huston was back in the weight room along with his teammates on the Navarre football team.
Burned by the feeling of missing the playoffs, that disappointment has provided fuel to the fire of the Raiders’ motivation. It’s why they have hit the ground running in the offseason.
“We gave ourselves a week to relax, and after that we hit the weight room hard,” Huston said. “It’s a different mindset going into the offseason. The coaches are pushing us to work hard and that’s what we’ve been focusing on.”
Navarre finished 6-4, missing the playoffs for the first time since 2011. The Raiders were left out despite a strong finish to the season that ended with two consecutive wins, including a 52-14 drubbing of Crestview in the season finale.
“It wasn’t the year we wanted, but it has motivated us for next year,” Huston said.
Raider defensive coordinator Garrett Bagley, who also helps coach the boys weightlifting team with head football coach Jay Walls, said the workouts have ramped up since winter break ended and he has taken notice of the motivation the Raiders are showcasing going into the offseason.
