Could you please share your thoughts on Amendment 2, which would legalize medical marijuana?
County Commissioner District 2 candidates:
I believe the use of medical marijuana has been proven to be substantial at helping people’s lives, however I do not believe it should be handled through an amendment; I feel that it should be addressed by our state Legislature.
I would agree to support the Legislature, but will not vote to support it through an amendment.
I agree that medical marijuana is helpful to various medical conditions. However, the ballot language leaves open doors for any other conditions not specifically identified in the language. It also holds harmless anyone providing or administering the substance. I fully supported the recent effort to legalize “Charlotte’s Web,” as this is a law aimed at a specific medication to target a specific illness. I believe, to protect all involved, the issue of legalized medical marijuana should be addressed in the same manner.
County Commissioner District 4 candidates:
Medical research has demonstrated beneficial uses of marijuana in the treatment of certain medical conditions. This amendment is on the ballot because our state lawmakers refused to take up a statutory change to allow a licensed physician to prescribe medical marijuana. Medical marijuana should have been addressed when lawmakers passed Charlotte’s Web
