Plan submitted to resume vacation rentals

If accepted, vacation rentals could start as early as Monday

Santa Rosa County Administrator, Dan Schebler, submitted a plan to the State of Florida to reopen short term vacation rentals late Friday afternoon. The plan stated that if accepted, Santa Rosa vacation/short term rental units will begin taking reservations and accepting check-ins next week, beginning on Monday, May 18.

According to the plan, reservations can not be made from states that have 500 or more cases of COVID per 100,000 residents. The states that would currently not be allowed to book reservations are: Louisiana, New York, New Jersey, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, Maryland, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Nebraska, Delaware, District of Columbia.  The plan will be re-evaluated bi-weekly adjusted as needed.   Property owners and managers will provide a weekly report to the Santa Rosa County Tourism Development Office that will include reservation information including home zip codes and arrival and departure dates.  In additional, managers will adhere to all Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) and CDC sanitation guidelines. The full plan can be found in the graphic provided below.

In the letter submitted to the state, Schebler wrote, “Navarre Beach is the primary economic driver for Santa Rosa County tourism revenue.  Aside from a single hotel on the beach, vacation home and condominium rentals generate the remaining tax dollars.  Our local economy has suffered greatly due to this ban as well as the continued loss of income that many rely on to pay mortgages and support local employment. Santa Rosa County previously requested that the Governor allow the operation of short term vacation rentals as part of Phase 1. Today we are revisiting that request while providing a plan to reopen short term vacation rentals in a responsible and safe manner.”
