Pik-itz to host Youth Market for young entrepreneurs

Have you heard? There is always something going on at Pik-itz!

Pik-itz is becoming well-known in Navarre for its thriving outdoor markets, Food Truck Alley, art classes and great shopping.

With its well-maintained grounds and manicured back lawn, it is the perfect place for kids and pets to play while waiting for food. Food Truck Alley has added a Little Free Library that has both adult and children’s books, making it easy to pick up a great beach read.

The Outdoor Markets on the first and third Saturdays of each month have become well-established with regular and new vendors. Owner Terry Light says that she has seen several creative young people who make products to sell at the markets.

“We love to see our community’s young entrepreneurs showing up in the business world,” Light said.
In fact, Pik-itz is planning a showcase just for young people. On August 28th, Pik-itz will host a Youth Market, showcasing vendors under the age of 20. They range from craftsmen to cooks to inventors and service businesses. Many of the regular market vendors are sponsoring fees for spaces and loaning their tents. Anyone who has a young entrepreneur in their family or neighborhood is encouraged to contact the store for more information.

The art scene is growing and thriving in Navarre. The Highway 87 Art Fest at Pik-itz on Mother’s Day weekend drew a large crowd and high-quality artists. According to Light, “We had such a great response to the Art Fest that we have decided to make it a semiannual event.” Pik-itz has scheduled the fall Art Fest for Oct. 9 to kick off the holiday shopping season.

“We would like this to become a community event,” Light said.

Pik-itz is looking for other Navarre businesses, especially those in the Highway 87 “Main Street” corridor, to become part of the event. Businesses are encouraged to host art vendors, music, even theater or comedy performances—anything that fits with the business customer base and space availability. Interested businesses should contact Pik-itz to coordinate marketing efforts.

The current art class line-up includes evening ArtUncorked classes along with the latest addition, stained glass classes, which are offered weekly. The two-session class is on Monday and Tuesday from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Class size is limited and pre-registration is required.

Inside the store, over 70 vendors provide varied and unique inventory. Merchandise is arranged in a department store model rather than by individual booths. Pik-itz staff does all the display and inventory placement giving it a clean, cohesive feel.

If you have not been to Pik-itz yet, stop and see what this great little store with a big personality has to offer. If you are a regular, Pik-itz staff is always happy to see you again.  Light emphasizes that browsing is encouraged and that the store is family- and pet-friendly.
