Jack Patching put on his warmup gear and threw on his backpack. There were still five minutes or so left in the opening half of Navarre’s boys soccer game against Mosley last Wednesday night and a teammate turned to the Raider star and asked if he was going home.
Patching obviously wasn’t headed out yet, but it wouldn’t be long before he and his teammates turned out the lights on the game and Bennett C. Russell Stadium in an 8-0 mercy-rule win over the Dolphins that took just one half of play to complete.
An easy win on the surface, it was much more than that below it as Patching etched his name into the Navarre record book in dominating fashion by pushing his single-season total to 30 goals.
Five goals did the trick. Patching scored twice in the first five minutes and had a hat trick by the 26-minute mark. He added two more goals after that.
