When my husband and I first moved to the area more than 20 years ago, we rented a townhome – and later bought a house – within walking distance of our new jobs.
Growing up in the Chicago suburbs, we were grateful not to have to commute anymore. In that part of the world, a one-mile drive can take one hour, and often does.
I am now a commuter again, driving 20 miles each way every weekday.
You probably think I’m going to complain about this intrusion on my downtime. I’m not.
So far, I’m enjoying it.
