Older swimmers embrace leadership role

Leadership in the pool isn’t something difficult to find for the Navarre swim team.

The Raiders have only four seniors – Harrison Dorsey, Reese Vickery, Carson Whitley and Merete Conley — but most of the swimmers are returning from last season and ready to help lead the way for a successful season.

Alyssa Allen is among them. The junior is focused on helping the younger swimmers out while working to improve at the same time.

“I definitely do what I can to help out the younger swimmers,” Allen said. “It’s about getting them adjusted to everything, like getting up early, getting into the pool and being ready to work and then going to school after.”

Dorsey is the senior captain for the Raiders, and he said it hasn’t been tough being in that role. He’s coming off a season in which he went to state in the 100 Backstroke.

“You know the team pretty well, so that makes it easier. They know they can trust you, so it’s easier to play that leadership role,” Dorsey said.

Luke Losquadro, a junior, enjoys being a leader as well.
