Kid’s Discovery Center in Mary Esther is taking all proper precautions after a teacher tested positive for COVID-19 last week.
The day care was notified of the positive result Sunday night. Director of Operations Kristen Lupola immediately notified all parents.
She also contacted proper authorities, including the Department of Health, which gave the day care center the green light Monday night to reopen the next day.
Lupola said she and her staff spent Monday cleaning the facility.
“The employees worked so they could continue to get a paid. We cleaned and sanitized the facility from top to bottom,” Lupola said.
Lupola said the teacher was only in contact with a handful of children for less than three hours. The teacher showed up to work feeling fine and showing no symptoms but did not come into work the next day and hasn’t been back to work since.
The children that came into contact with the teacher have not returned either as they are under quarantine.
Everyone that enters the facility is being screened. If anyone shows any signs of illness, they are being sent home immediately.
“We are taking every necessary step to keep everyone safe. We are handling this the right way,” Lupola said.
Lupola said the day care remains open to watch over the children of essential workers, such as doctors, nurses and first responders, and for any parents who have no other option but day care for their children.
