Not even a pandemic can create interference for ham radio field day

Amateur Radio operators are counted on to be available in an emergency, providing a form of communication that can be effective when all else, even electricity, fails.

The Emerald Coast Amateur Radio Association’s planned participation in the American Radio Relay League Field Day took on a different look over the weekend because of the COVID-19 pandemic. But the fact that it’s still going on highlights what the group is all about.

“The field day event, at its core, is designed to give radio amateurs an opportunity to practice operating under unusual and unexpected conditions,” said Len Frantz, the secretary of the ECARA. “The pandemic has just added another dimension to that mission.”
