Mary Beloat is an example of the different look Navarre’s softball team has this season. The senior is moving from the outfield to behind the plate as the Raiders’ new starting catcher. She fills the void left by Emily Cannington, one of eight seniors lost to graduation.
“I have big shoes to fill, but I’m very excited about it,” Beloat said.
It’s a position she’s wanted for quite some time.
“The running joke is if coach needs a catcher, I’m like ‘oh, pick me. I haven’t caught any serious games since travel ball but I’m ready,” Beloat said.
And the Raiders are ready for a new softball season coming off their first regional tourney appearance in 2014.
