There will be a new-look Navarre baseball team taking the field in 2020.
After graduating 11 players, a good portion of this year’s lineup will dress for varsity for the first time. And they’ll be playing for first-year head coach Chris Williams, who was promoted from top assistant over the summer.
The field was also repaired.
Gone is the lip along the left side of the infield, a rise in the turf that nearly caused a head injury to Ben Waschenko last season. A portion of left field received new sod along with worn-out areas near the home bench.
The baseball players are spending afternoons in the weight room, batting cages, engaging in light fielding in voluntary open-field opportunities as well as running sprints for conditioning.
“Fall workouts consist of two or three weight room days and two plyometric/speed training days a week,” Williams said. “The only change so far is we have been able to get incoming freshmen in the weight room to start workouts after school.”
