Navarre’s volleyball team drops final matches of regular season

Navarre dropped two of its last three games of the regular season, culminating Thursday in a three-set sweep by Fort Walton Beach.

This wasn’t the way coach Ryan Davenport saw the Raiders moving into the post-season.

However, he’s openly optimistic with the way the team is playing now despite its 7-17 record. The Raiders beat Pace Oct. 3 in five sets, took Gulf Breeze to five sets last Tuesday on senior night, and showed a lot of fight against the Vikings.

“This is when you want them to be amazing,” Davenport said. “All the rest of the season doesn’t matter. It was all about preparing for this moment. I think they’re looking great – all 15 of them.”

Walking onto the court in both games, Navarre’s five seniors were leading the way with a more matured, scrappy defense. The rotations Davenport was putting on the floor seemed to perform as a single unit.

On senior night against Gulf Breeze, only four underclassmen played, with Abbey Nebarez and Samantha MacFarland playing in all five sets. Most of the playing time went to the seniors.
