Navarre’s Junior ROTC unit is headed to the national orienteering competition for the second consecutive year after dominating at the qualifying meet at Oak Mount State Park over the weekend.
Nationals will be held Feb. 16-18 in Apopka. The Raiders cadets swept the competition, taking first on each of the three courses.
Shaun Parcher had the top time for the boys on the green course, which is the most challenging of the three, while Kaden Diaz took fifth on the green course. Parcher covered 5.2 kilometers in 56 minutes and 44 seconds, an impressive accomplishment when one considers he just quickly reviews the map he is given and starts running.
Arianna Rice placed second overall on the green course and Amanda Teicher was fifth.
Navarre also showed quite a bit of class in that two of its cadets chose to disqualify themselves from the competition to aid an injured runner from Neshoba High School. Those cadets were Alexandra Quintal and Azandrya Fuentes.
