Navarre ready to write a different headline at state

Written in Sharpie on a piece of paper pinned to the front page of a Navarre Press sports section from last year’s state girls weightlifting meet coverage are the words “what will this year’s paper say?”

The question has yet to be answered. But it will be soon enough for a program that saw its streak of consecutive state titles end at four last February.

The words written on that newspaper hanging in the Navarre High School weight room have stayed with the team as much as the sting has of taking seventh at state.

On Saturday, the Raiders look to punctuate this season with a storybook ending as they compete for their sixth crown in eight years at the 2A meet at Arnold High School in Panama City. The meet begins at 10:30 a.m.
