Hayden Richard warmed up on the sideline every chance he had, the bone-chilling wind gusting throughout this cold November night at the Navarre Soccer Complex.
On the field, Richard was hot as ever, scoring twice to lead Navarre’s boys soccer team to a 3-1 season-opening victory over Pensacola Catholic Tuesday night.
“I felt all right. I got a little tired, but I kept playing,” Richard said.
The cold air did make it challenging for the Raiders to run the field against the Crusaders. Richard battled to catch his breath several times, but it didn’t stop him from cashing in on a couple of opportunities.
Richard scored off a rebound about 30 minutes into the game for a 1-0 advantage Navarre wouldn’t relinquish.
Then 12 minutes into the second half, he got his foot on a ball that bounced off the crossbar on a shot attempt from Kobe Banks and punched it past the Catholic goalie to extend the Raider lead to 3-1. Richard scored 12 goals a season ago .
