Navarre’s volleyball team lost three matches last week, all against opponents ranked in the top 60 in the state. Pensacola Catholic is 21, Gulf Breeze is 29 and Niceville is 58.
Navarre’s season record is 6-14, and head coach Ryan Davenport is asking for more mental strength from his players.
Following the loss in “the Tank” in Gulf Breeze Sept. 24, he said: “I saw a team that started off really strong and was competing. Then a couple errors here and there, and … one error turns into five. You just can’t do that and win matches.”
The same struggles reappeared in the home match against Niceville Saturday.
“We’re making the same mistakes,” he said. “We finally ran a good offensive. It was most successful if we dial in and get crafty on offense.”
Recently, the Raiders installed a 6-2 offense, and they’ve been adding wrinkles ever since.
“We had a lot of good plays. We just let the mistakes get us down,” Lily Trujillo said.
